* brief description:Factory for the N.V. Philips at Stadskanaal (1955-1957). The design begins in 1955 with a three-sided expandable volume in which the canteen and boiler house are isolated from the main building, which consists of a large assembly hall and a narrow two-story office strip.
In 1956, Maaskant creates six variants, again addressing the question of how to expand the factory (variant with interior courtyards (variant 2), variant with ridge structure (variant 6)). The latter is developed further: three assembly halls are placed against a long volume of the metalware factory. The office/canteen, boiler house and finishing department are housed in separate volumes. Each assembly hall has a connecting section containing the toilets, washrooms, etc., with a narrow office strip on the second floor.
The material of the facades is thermolux or vitrasilk, with a parapet of glazed bricks. The assembly halls have a gable roof with a truss construction. The facades are mostly glass.
