Book on architectural competitions worldwide. | The book is about competitions and their importance for architecture. National and international examples are given. On p.156 to p.167, the City Hall competition is explained with the 1967 competition and its history, a history that began as early as 1645. In 1936, a national architectural competition is held for the City Hall with a submission deadline of 1937/08/10. Of the 225 entries, four designs are selected to be developed in a closed competition. The designs are by Zwiers, Duintjer, Komter, A. and J.F. Staal, Berghoef and Vegter. An explanation of the further course of this competition is given. A. and J.F. Staal sought a contemporary form of baroque without rejecting new techniques and insights. | The backgrounds of competition designs are outlined, after which some examples are discussed.
