Amsterdam has the Concertgebouw
Parool's contribution to the preservation of the concert hall. Two very good articles: 'The architect: Dolf van Gent' and 'The Concertgebouw on the Van Baerlestraat', with nice information about the garden with music dome near the concert building, where outdoor concerts were held. After the streetcar started running through Lairessestraat from 1913 and it caused too much noise pollution, the outdoor concerts were stopped. The garden was sold in 1923 to the municipality, which had houses built there. Also a nice piece about the acoustics of the hall and what knowledge was available at that time about acoustics and which buildings served as examples.
