The years 1970-2000 have been very radical for the city of Utrecht. The center around the railroad underwent a thorough restructuring, the largest restructuring of an inner city that has taken place in the Netherlands. Demolition, breaching and demolition to create space for traffic. And to overcome the obstacle of the wide railroad yard, a pedestrian traverse was constructed connecting both parts of the city. On and around this traverse was built Hoog Catharijne, an office and shopping area. Utrecht CS station was also built on this traverse.
