The Shadow of the Unthought appears as part of the project 'Hoogstraatmaker 2004', a project on art and public space. On the basis of four hypotheses, the author Wim Nijenhuis philosophizes what influence art, and in particular 'thinking', can have on public space, in this project a shopping street in decline. At the same time, it is an experiment with the power of art and thought.
Is it true, that art must play a role as an indeterminate factor in an utterly fixed situation?
Does art possess the ability to have a disruptive effect in a regulated situation?
Does art possess the ability to make a 'seeing differently' socially effective?
Does art possess the ability, if only for a moment, to make power 'visible'?
