Leidsche Rijn Park is unique. As one of the largest urban parks in the Netherlands, it is located in the middle of the largest new housing estate in the country. Designed by the international firm West 8, the park could not have been realized without the input of all kinds of local initiatives. For everyone who lives around the park, works on the park or enjoys walking in it, there is now a beautiful book that shows the design in an appealing way and gives a lively account of its realization. At the time West 8 was commissioned to design the park, the construction of such a large new city park was unusual. Meanwhile, the designers and executors can boast ten years of experience and the task is much more current. Similar parks are being built below Arnhem and in the Haarlemmermeer, and the future of the other large green areas of the Randstad is under consideration. Thus the story of Leidsche Rijn Park also contributes to a current national discussion.
