People have lived on and near water for centuries. The Dutch delta and the polders have a long tradition and have their origins in urban and climatic developments. Experiments with new housing forms and design principles are providing new insights for the future of living in the delta. Urban designers, planners, developers, designers, policy makers and other thinkers are challenged to integrate water into their vision of housing and urban planning. How do we design a neighborhood that is more than an 'ordinary' country quarter with lots of water and more than a houseboat quarter with some amenities? How do we deal with traffic, quality of public space and privacy?
