The Waalfront in Nijmegen is now still an industrial area where business comes first. Over the next twenty years, the area will be transformed into a residential and working area with its own identity. The new neighborhoods will bear witness to a colorful past while silently blending into the Nijmegen environment. The historical stratification with as main components the Roman city, the Fort Krayenhoff and the late nineteenth-century industry has acquired a place on the basis of an original urban landscape. This is the result of several research and design sessions, the exchange of ideas with residents, with external professionals and with experts within the municipality of Nijmegen.
