Auke de Vries: sculptures, drawings and works in public space

Visual artist Auke de Vries (Bergum, 1937) has become known for the elegant and whimsical sculptures he realizes in public spaces in the Netherlands and far beyond. For example, everyone knows his Maas sculpture in Rotterdam and the striking sculptures at Hollands Spoor Station in The Hague and in the pond of the NAi in Rotterdam. Less well known is that De Vries' artistic spectrum is much broader than sculpture, ranging from small sketches to landscape design studies. In 2012, De Vries turns 75 and has been active as an artist for more than 50 years. This book presents for the first time an overview of the oeuvre De Vries built up over more than fifty years. There will also be an exhibition from May 13 to August 26 at Museum Belvédère Heerenveen marking that anniversary.
