Building Young! : housing construction for young people
Young people make for vibrant cities. They bring innovation and make an important contribution to creative industries, art and culture. Like other city dwellers, they deserve good housing. Especially in student cities, where the number of young people continues to rise. BuildYoung! Housing for Youth brings the possibilities into focus. It looks back, studies, inspires, contributes interesting reference projects and presents thirty concrete plans for youth housing in one of the largest student cities in the Netherlands: Groningen. This book brings together the results of the manifestation BouwJong! that was launched in Groningen in January 2010 in response to the growing proportion of young people in the city and the changing demand for suitable housing. BouwJong! fits into a tradition of successful urban manifestations such as A Star is Born, The Intense City and Intense Low-rise with which the Municipality of Groningen provides its spatial development with new impulses once in a while. Especially for the fifth International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam - Making the City, this book is introduced with a story about the various manifestations in Groningen: from Stadsmarkeringen and Blue Moon to BouwJong! In addition, BouwJong! contains contributions from Marlies Rohmer, Niek Verdonk, Dick van Gameren and the TU Delft, which compiled a catalog of examples of youth housing from home and abroad for the event.
