How will the Netherlands remain accessible in the future? Modern man cannot be squeezed into a mould: he lives here, works there and stores, plays sports and swings in yet other places. In doing so, he uses various forms of transportation. But the way cities, the economy and traffic are organized is reaching its limits. The Mobile City examines the ways we travel, where we switch from one means of transport to another, and how the Netherlands can respond to increasing mobility. Using theories about networks and nodes, The Mobile City redefines the concept of accessibility. In doing so, spatial planning and infrastructure cannot be separated. By fusing city, country and mobility, the Netherlands can develop into a coherent landscape metropolis where the car is cleverly intertwined with public transport and slow traffic.
