The largest Frisian pottery factory still in operation is that of the Tichelaar family in Makkum. In the late 17th century, Freerk Jan Tichelaar began making fine ceramic products such as painted tiles and dishes. After that, the company grew and acquired a central place in Frisian pottery production. A large part of the company archives were preserved and formed a rich source for the compilation of this richly illustrated company history. The author pays much attention to the painting styles of the successive `first¿ painters who often determined the appearance of the product for years. In Part IV, the colorful company catalogs developed over the years are depicted at full size
