Built in 1900, the union office of the Algemene Nederlandse Diamantbewerkersbond in Amsterdam is one of Berlage's finest works. In the building's large meeting room, R.N. Roland Holst created a monumental series of murals. 'De Burcht' is also a building with an eventful history. This publication appears on the occasion of the completion of the restoration of the Federal Council Chamber in the Burcht. The original murals by Roland Holst, boarded away behind paneling since 1920, have been restored, and otherwise the hall has also been returned to its full glory. This book, with approximately 50 black-and-white and 25 color images, provides a vivid picture of the creation, history, and recent restoration of a unique building.
