No fewer than three museums in which architect Hubert-Jan Henket is closely involved will open in 2013: the Museum Quarter in 's-Hertogenbosch and Museum de Fundatie in Zwolle - both remodeled and thoroughly expanded - and the all-new Fries Museum in Leeuwarden. His work will therefore attract plenty of attention. Hubert-Jan Henket (1940) was inspired from his studies by the architecture of the Modern Movement. It is key to his work with numerous notable projects, including Teylers Museum in Haarlem, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Haarlem District Court, the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok, Zonnestraal in Hilversum and the Verkade factory in 's-Hertogenbosch. With his firm - Bierman Henket architects - he specializes in the renovation and transformation of existing buildings and the incorporation of contemporary buildings in a historical context. In Where new and old meet, Henket shares with us his views on architecture and on the preservation and restoration of existing buildings. For years he has argued that intensive reuse is a prerequisite for a sustainable future.
