A new generation of architects is working on an optimistic vision of the future. Committed and pragmatic, they offer solutions to social issues~The turnover of Dutch architectural firms is falling dramatically, but the number of architectural firms is rising. An increasing number of young designers are taking matters into their own hands to formulate answers to societal challenges with the resources of architecture. They are embracing a new reality in which users, residents and clients become partners. In the 21st century, in a new social and financial context, a group of young Dutch architects and urban planners are coming up with new ideas about their profession. Vacancy, process urbanism, stalled investments, social contradictions, ossified organizations, environmental demands; this generation is exploring the conceptual possibilities of the new reality.~ They are becoming developers and entrepreneurs, creating their own commissioning situations, forming new cooperatives and delivering ideas that are inspiring and practical and realizable even in difficult financial times.
