"At the request of the Dutch Directors Guild, I wrote a booklet on the director's legal position. What is that position and, more importantly, how can he improve it? The director, I write, is one of the most disenfranchised beings in our society. Film director Frans Weisz calls the director "outlawed" elsewhere in the booklet. That may be going a bit far. It is just that once a director would be hunted, he would have few means to defend himself. The legal status of the director is woefully inadequate. In a nutshell, I cover the Copyright Act, what copyright actually is and, in the director's case, how he gets rid of it. Much attention goes on to contract law. The contract is perhaps the best way for the director to protect himself."
