In this novel, American journalist William Weston visits the 20-year-old breakaway country of Ecotopia (the West Coast of the United States excluding Southern California) where he encounters new green technologies and alternative lifestyles. Ecotopia was inspired by the counterculture of the 1960s and 1970s. The book became a cult novel and had a great influence on the still young environmental movement.
