Do special and meaningful objects still exist for us in our mediated and globalized world? To what extent are we still able to give weight and meaning to things,to unique objects in visual art and architecture, for example? Should we sigh with Awee Prins (who was strongly inspired by Baudrillard in his From Boredom) that the worlds of things are dying of banality,or is there still room in our modern lives for the unique, the singular, the particular? Conversation between the world-renowned sociologist and cultural critic Jean Baudrillard (died in 2007) and the also internationally renowned architect Jean Nouvel. Baudrillard and Nouvel convincingly show how "the question of the object" is related to fundamental cultural and political issues that will frequently occupy us in the years to come.
