Bart Reuser (NEXT architects) is fascinated by the endless transformation of Seoul's Hongdae neighborhood. He shares his fascination in 'Freestyle 02. Seoulutions,' the second edition in a series of collector's items by BNA Research. It is an account of the search for the driving forces behind unique solutions for the city, the 'Seoulutions', but it is also an ode to Hongdae and to the dynamic city. Bart Reuser: 'Visiting Hongdae is beautiful, but coming back to Hongdae is even more beautiful. Only those who return to Hongdae see the pace at which this neighborhood is transforming and witness the special relationship it has with something as elusive as time. That became my fascination. Not the city itself, but the change it goes through.' The change of the neighborhood is in the change of its buildings. For example, a restaurant became a nightclub via an arcade, and a parking lot transformed into a store. In Seoulutions, Reuser brings Hongdae into focus and draws lessons for the Netherlands. The result is a warm plea for a more dynamic urbanism.
