The home interior is a measure of time. It envelops and reveals living, the private sphere. It tells how we interact with the past, with the things that surround us. Over the past century, this interior has been a theme of choice used by architects to reflect on modern living and to unfold future visions of living and everyday life. DASH No. 11 examines the interior as a tool to represent architectural visions by publishing 15 exhibited interiors from the past century and, in many cases, reconstructing them in drawing. These interiors were not intended to be lived in, but served an artistic, educational or commercial purpose. The documentation includes plans from Behrens and Berlage, from Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe, from Joe Columbo and Ugo La Pietra, to Kengo Kuma and Hella Jongerius. The period rooms are placed in their specific era, the influence of IKEA is examined, and the relationship between the public and private is questioned.
