Van Gogh Museum : the building

After the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the third major museum on Museumplein has now been expanded and renovated to accommodate the growing numbers of international visitors. For the new entrance building, Kisho Kurokawa Architect & Associates created a sketch design that elegantly compares to the elliptical building the firm completed in Amsterdam in 1999. This idea was elaborated, materialized and realized by Hans van Heeswijk Architects with a great sense of detail. This book presents the transparent and technically very advanced extension in images and text. Photographers Luuk Kramer and Ronald Tilleman documented the whole project, architect and critic Maarten Kloos contrasts the development of the Van Gogh Museum with the fascinating history of Museumplein, and architect Hans van Heeswijk explains the design.
