Agriculture as an economic activity is separating itself from agriculture as a spatial activity. Crops, which are the most profitable, are concentrated on about ten percent of the agricultural area. On most of the rest of the acreage, land-based agriculture takes place, regularly under very difficult economic conditions. The consequences are profound. Agriculture may become impossible in some areas, partly due to pressure from strict environmental measures from "Brussels"; familiar agricultural landscapes are about to disappear. The economic future of the agricultural sector and the spatial future of the rural area no longer run parallel. That is what the advice 'More work' is about.
