The Netherlands profiles itself as a global knowledge platform for water and delta technology. Vietnam is one of the countries with which the Netherlands exchanges knowledge intensively. Architect Joep Janssen lived for four years in the Mekong Delta, one of the most threatened deltas in the world. The population here responds in its own way to changes in the delta system. Janssen focused his research on the small scale. In the Mekong Delta, urbanization and hydraulic engineering are being addressed with local knowledge. The book is a mix of reportage, historical background and urban planning perspective. Photographer Wytske van Keulen portrayed the daily lives of residents in which water is both a blessing and a threat.
