This brutal world

Brutalist architecture is a movement in architecture that flourished from the 1950s to the mid-1970s, descending from the modernist architectural movement of the early 20th century. This Brutal Wolrd is a curated collection of some of the most powerful and awe-inspiring Brutalist architecture ever built. The book is an analysis of this compelling and much-admired style of architecture. It brings to light virtually unknown Brutalist architectural treasures from across the former eastern bloc and other far flung parts of the world. The pages are also a testament to the fact that, perhaps finally, Brutalism can now shed its sense of danger and has come full circle from utopia, to dystopia and back again. This Brutal World is a wide-ranging global survey featuring buildings in Argentina, Australia and Azerbaijan - Canada, Chile and China - Georgia, Germany and Guatemala - Iceland, India and Israel - Nepal, North Singapore and Sweden - as well as locations right across eastern and western Europe and the United States. It includes works by some of the best contemporary architects like Zaha Hadid and David Chipperfield as well as by some of the master architects of the 20th century including Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Kahn, Paul Rudolph and Marcel Breuer.
