A detached house in a green subdivision remains by far the Fleming's most popular residential dream. Nevertheless, there is considerable criticism of the allotment: the density of housing is too low, energy consumption too high, and car dependence too great. De Verkavelingsverhalen tries to initiate change and, together with residents, policy makers and designers, searches for new future images for the Flemish parceling of land. In themselves, these future images are not spectacular. What is special is that these initiatives were developed and supported by residents who until then had only worried about the maintenance of their own gardens.
