He designed thousands of homes, dozens of villas scattered throughout the Netherlands, schools, hospitals, town halls and very many churches. But after his funeral on July 14, 1934 at the Heilig Land Foundation near Nijmegen, which he helped design, his name disappeared on the dung heap of history. He appears only in a single footnote in the many architectural books published afterwards: Jan Stuyt (1868-1934). In the now published biography Jan Stuyt - Architect and networker during the rich Roman Catholic life, justice is done to the craftsman pur sang Jan Stuyt. Frans van Gaal, Wies van Leeuwen and Theo van Oeffelt follow the architect's life and work by characterizing his movements within his various networks. Those networks, in Stuyt's time still colored and limited by the pillarization, and the personal contacts that resulted form the basis for the man's artistic and commercial development. The book also gives the reader a good picture of the transition from the 19th to the 20th century. Naturally, much attention is paid to Stuyt's extensive oeuvre, but the 'person' Jan Stuyt is also generously portrayed, a special element in the light of existing architectural history. The publication was published to mark the tenth anniversary of the Jheronimus Bosch Center Foundation, located in the former St. James Church in 's-Hertogenbosch, also designed by Jan Stuyt.
