Dutch porcelain was produced in the eighteenth century in four centers in the provinces of North and South Holland: Weesp, Loosdrecht, Amstel and The Hague. Characteristic features were craftsmanship and an international style. In terms of quality of material and decoration, the products could certainly compete with the porcelain of famous European manufactures. Yet these Dutch production centers did not exist for more than a few decades. 'Pretty Dutch' reports on this. It describes the coherent social and cultural-historical background and also shows the beauty of this underexposed Dutch product. Texts by specialists, supplemented by reactions of contemporary designers and artists to this historical material, shed new light on Dutch porcelain. 'Pretty Dutch' proves that Dutch porcelain does not belong to the past but can also provide a contemporary answer to the question of a 'Dutch identity'.
