IN R : IN residence design dialogues : Diary #6, Identity detectors

This Diary features an overview of the sixth in a series of workshops set up by IN Residence, which this time took place in October 2013 and was called ‘Identity Detectors’. In this workshop guest designers Anton Alvarez, Jean-Baptiste Fastrez, Hilda Hellström, Kolk & Kusters,Commonplace and Giorgia Zanellato worked with a group of selected students. Together they investigated the mechanism that makes an object become the media through which an identity is revealed. The sixth edition of the IN Residence workshop, described in the pages of this "Diary", critically studies the issue of "Identity Detectors", adding a fresh chapter of inquiry to a firmly established format for discussing contemporary design. Although the format is based on a recurring organizational approach, it is updated every year thanks to the brand-new combination of people taking part and the quality of their contributions. IN Residence's recurring workshops provoke unmediated interaction between talented designers and carefully selected students, the experimental workshops use the dialogue to test the effectiveness of design thinking as a means of significant expression and cross-sectional exploration.
