There is a direct connection between the future of the city, the main topic of the IABR, and the major challenges of our time, climate change and rapidly growing social inequality. And because these tasks have quickly become more urgent, the IABR is taking an increasingly decisive and concrete position. But what can the IABR, small player in great violence, do concretely? The tools it has are the power of imagination and the ability of designers to show us what we can want. No more - but no less. However, for design power to be truly effective, good plans must also be able to become concrete projects. That still happens with difficulty and too little. A link is missing. Everywhere. The IABR will focus for three years on finding that missing link, on bridging the gap between innovative design and sustainable realization. Starting with its own Delta of the Low Countries, with its own research and Ateliers in the Netherlands and Belgium, and with exhibitions and program in Rotterdam and Brussels.
