The work of architect Gé van der Pol (1928-2016) has received -in the years he was working- much attention from various media. In 1993, the Singer Museum in Laren dedicated an exhibition to his work. Meanwhile, some of his most important designs have been drastically rebuilt or even disappeared altogether. Van der Pol can be considered a member of structuralism: 'a movement characterized by buildings with a geometric structure composed of often small units related to the human scale' (def: Wikipedia). That human scale plays an important role throughout his work, as does the use of simple -often untreated- building materials such as clean concrete, concrete brick and wood, with the structures simply visible.
