The Dam threatened!
In this article, Merkelbach expresses his doubts about the possible construction of the central area of Dam Square. He believes that before discussing what kind of building there should be, one should first see how the Dam should be arranged and whether there is indeed room for construction. He first gives a brief summary of the municipal decisions on the Dam area between 1930 and 1939. Then comes his plea as to why decisions, made in 1910, should not be relied upon indiscriminately, but that the question is whether there should/may be construction. "It is not a question of getting rid of the Damplantsoen as cheaply as possible, but of giving the Dam its best form."
