Eijkelenboom gives his views on the matter. He gives an overview of sorts, starting with the 19th century passage and continuing with American buildings with plazas (photo courtyard IBM building, New York), which move the identity of a building to the public public living spaces on the inside. He continues with a description of the central inner street in the Merwede hospital in Dordrecht, which he designed himself, and a brief description of a glass-covered space in the courthouse in Dordrecht, also designed by himself, which is not in the middle of a building, but rather forms a buffer or transitional area between outside and inside.
