Van der Gaast designed the Schiedam Centrum station in collaboration with J.H. Baas. The station hall has a roof structure of wooden hyppar shells of five by five meters, placed on concrete columns with mushroom heads. The Fa. J.K. Simon of Schiedam was the contractor for the concrete work, the Fa. Van Vliet and Van Dulst of Rotterdam was the contractor for the construction of the station. The Fa. De Vries Robbé of Gorinchem was responsible for the steel construction of the high-rise, NV Nebima of Haarlem made the curtain walls and NV NEMAHO of Doetinchem constructed the wooden shell roofs.
