Kindergarten 'De Rozeknop' at Sneek

Architect's note: "From the original plan, which consisted of four kindergarten classes with a playroom, only two classrooms and the playroom were provisionally built. The toilets and the work kitchen units were projected on the corridor side so that attractive enlargements of the corridor were created at the class exits. In the courtyard at the entrance there are display cases in which work of the preschoolers can be exhibited for their parents. The originally planned central heating was replaced by gas heating for each classroom. The chimney of the central heating was replaced by a bell tower, for which a swinging bell was donated by private individuals. The building rests on a pile foundation and otherwise consists of load-bearing walls and steel yokes with wooden joists over them with wood-wool board-roofing with mastic roofing. Light colors are used, mainly white and light gray with some primary colors marking the individual classrooms. Playing rights in the work corners were first applied by architect Romke de Vries in the Montessori school in Wassenaar. Since then, they have also been applied by other architects without citation. The cooperation between the architect and the contractor, Mr. De Dood, went well. The large outdoor playground was also designed by the architect. The building was completed in the first months of 1953. The opening was waited until the summer of 1953, after the surrounding garden had grown in somewhat'.
