The woman and her home : illustrated monthly magazine for women's interests in family and society [1906-March 1974].
The upscale women's magazine De Vrouw en haar Huis first appeared in 1906. De vrouw en haar huis is founded by Elisabeth M. Rogge, who will be chief editor until 1939. Her intention is to provide the educated woman with information on household, clothing, arts and crafts. In the early years, there is much attention to handicrafts, from lace-making to woodcarving. The articles are mainly entertaining and informative in nature. Around 1920, the position of women became more important, including articles on politics and women's suffrage. In 1939, Rogge is succeeded by "Dra. M.G. Schenk succeeds him. During World War II, the NSB takes the reins for some time and an NSB editor-in-chief comes in. After the war, Schenk is able to continue her work. The women's magazine will continue to appear until the mid-1970s, when it merges into Ideaal Wonen. (BS)
