CAST field of activity: urban planning and architecture The Central Brabant region, with the city of Tilburg at its core, is always the starting point for CAST activities. As an unplanned industrial city, Tilburg eludes traditional notions of urban beauty: Tilburg has no picturesque medieval city center and is not a regularly ordered metropolis of the future. In Tilburg, on the contrary, on a relatively small scale, it has been visible for more than a century how existing cores have merged into a livable larger whole. That makes Tilburg so special and explains why this city is increasingly seen as an example. An example of how cities can develop now that with the rapidly advancing urbanization of the Netherlands, the ideal of the city as a tight cohesion in the landscape no longer seems feasible. Precisely from Tilburg, then, both regionally and nationally, a meaningful contribution can be made to thinking about the future of the Dutch city and its architecture. CAST working method and organization In organizing the various activities, CAST cooperates with institutions that are active in the field of architecture and urban planning in Tilburg and its surroundings. These include the BNA kring Midden-Brabant, the Fontys Academy for Architecture and Urbanism, Avans colleges, ROC Tilburg, Culture in School Tilburg, BKKC, various private initiatives and several municipalities. But CAST also regularly collaborates with others. Locally with the Midden-Brabant Library, TiU, developers, housing corporations and designers, among others. But also provincially and nationally with, among others, the Stimuleringsfonds voor Architectuur, the KEI, the Province of Noord-Brabant and fellow architecture centers in the Netherlands (Netwerk AC) and in Flanders. The CAST activities and projects are financially made possible by a grant contribution from the Stimuleringsfonds voor Architectuur (Netherlands Architecture Fund) on the basis of an annual program submitted by CAST.
