The unstoppable demolition of monumental buildings and entire blocks of houses is arousing increasing resistance among Amsterdam residents. Especially the belt built in the decades around 1900 around the center is falling prey to the demolition hammer. Meanwhile, almost half of some neighborhoods have been demolished, such as the Dapperbuurt and the Indische buurt. This book takes stock of what has disappeared in the past twenty years. The buildings and houses are documented with photographs and descriptions based on archival research. The result is staggering, but even more shocking is the list of what will be demolished in the coming years.
