The Architecture Prize Concrete, with its rich tradition, has been awarded since 1977 in recognition of exemplary buildings in concrete. In response to the call for entries, the approximately 180 submissions are testimony to the sheer variety and excellent quality of concrete architecture in Switzerland. In their evaluations, the jury placed a key emphasis on sus tainability as a whole. The overriding question was whether the projects were only realisable by a well-thought-out application of concrete as a building material. This year's prize goes to Bearth & Deplazes Architekten for the new Bernina Pass Maintenance Depot. Individual prizes respectively go to Penzel Valier for the new SRF Campus, Zurich; Harry Gugger Studio for the conversion of the Erlenmatt Silo in Basle; Nickisch Walder for the flexibly usable two family house in Sulten, Flims; and the ETH Zurich affiliated interdisciplinary planning collective of the NCCR in Digital Fabrication for the innovative approaches in the DFAB HOUSE on the NEST build ing in Dübendorf. The Ticino office Inches Geleta Architetti has been honored with the Sponsorship Award for Young Architects for the Palazzo Pioda in Locarno. All of the prizewinners have created excellent, holistic architecture.
