1922. Three young men found the avant-garde magazine 7 Arts. The magazine should not only boost art, it should also shine the spotlight on architecture and film as media in which all the arts converge. Soon after its inception, Pierre Bourgeois, poet, and his brother Victor, architect, and Pierre-Louis Flouquet, painter, are joined by Georges Monier, composer, and Karel Maes, painter, engraver and furniture designer. Immediately they form a unifying element in the Belgian avant-garde and the magazine gains a place at the heart of the European avant-garde. In the six years of its publication, the magazine will feature the main actors of the Belgian and international art scene: De Stijl, the Bauhaus, the Purists, the Constructivists, the Futurists and many other proponents of geometric abstraction, which they call pure plasticity. The driving forces behind the magazine aim to make art permeate all dimensions of modern urban life and profoundly change it as a result.
