Transitions! 129 x design research : space for change
In the run-up to the Environment Act, practice new, integral forms of collaboration between different sectors. With that desire, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science is knocking on the door of the Creative Industry Stimulation Fund in 2020. In the midst of the corona crisis, officials are eager to support the creative sector (particularly design agencies) and at the same time get agencies and (semi-)governments used to the integral way of working that the National Environmental Vision (NOVI) calls for.
The Stimulation Fund listens to the wishes and devises the Voucher Scheme Spatial Design. Design agencies and (semi-)governments are given the opportunity to jointly submit a plan in a short period of time. To receive support from the fund, a proposal had to meet a number of conditions: the two parties had to work together on the project from the first moment, the proposal had to contain a concrete issue at a concrete location, and most importantly: it had to involve design research.
Transitions!, the handbook, is the concrete result of the year and a half of running the scheme. In the end, 129 design studies, divided into four themes, were approved and implemented. From stimulating biodiversity on a North Groningen business park to the transformation of Kerkrade's historic ribbon development. And from a future-proof polder in the head of North Holland to a future vision for shrinkage in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
