Cl. 1 : Immaterial virtual interattivo = Intangible virtual interactive : The impact of Design on the Cultural Heritage may sound at first sight outrageous: design has its roots in the industrial culture of the 20th century, while the Cultural Heritage is related to history and the past. Yet this encounter is made possible by a twofold revolution: nowadays design is no longer related only to the idea of standards and machine-made objects, and the Cultural Heritage no longer comprises only artifacts from the past, but also the heritage of the industrial society of the 19th and 20th centuries and all those anthropological aspects of human behaviour that make up what is called intangible culture. On the other hand all major cultural institutions museums, libraries, archives, etc. are experiencing a crisis which concerns their content. Design, with its ability to govern change, can give the right answers to these questions and the new digital technologies can address the challenges of the communication society, as long as we avoid any dangerous confusion between reality and virtual. Dl. 2 : Archivio animato = Animated archive : The transversal object of historical, critical, technical and methodological studies, the archive of architecture and design in the era of digitization is the main issue of this volume, a collection of analyses, reflections and a proposal for an experimental prototype. The essays collected here share the idea that the archive cannot be considered a concentration camp of memory, separated from its vocation to participate in the present. The animated archive is one possible answer to this danger, for its possibility of opening up an interactive dimension of knowledge, where the users becomes the makers of their own growth. Dl. 3 : Progetto e memoria del temporaneo = Design and memory of the ephemeral : The book deals with methods of documenting, archiving, visualizing and enhancing the culture of the exhibition design process by conceptualizing a digital archive that experiments with new structures and narratives for an online xperience of these documentary assets about ephemeral design.
