Eduard Isaac Asser, a lawyer in Amsterdam, was one of the first in the Netherlands to experiment with the new medium of photography. He photographed in his spare time and for pleasure. Initially he engaged in daguerreotypes, later concentrating on the paper negative. His oeuvre, consisting mainly of portraits and townscapes, has been completely preserved and is illustrated and described in the catalog section of the book
