Ter Meulen also looked very different in the first years of its existence, now more than sixty years ago, than it does today. At the time this business was founded, hundreds of large and small stores existed in the same industry in Rotterdam. Today, very many of them are no longer to be found anywhere and the memory of them has faded, even among the families that found their existence in them barely half a century ago. In these pages we will try to answer the question why the name Ter Meulen survived in an era when so many businesses disappeared.
