And do the iconic designs really show the whole story? Are we overlooking indispensable objects and designs? And what hidden stories lie behind them? Design critic Jeroen Junte asked thirty professionals from the worlds of design, fashion and architecture to contribute to a polyphonic list of design icons that all Dutch people can identify with. From artistic prototypes to everyday utensils and graphic activism New Icons links surprising historical insights to design. The result is a stimulating quest for a more diverse, inclusive and sustainable image of what Dutch Design was, is and can become. With interviews with, among others, Marleen Stikker (Waag Futurelab), Martine Postma (Repair Café), Yassine Salihine (chief curator of Design Museum Den Bosch), Bas van Abel (founder Fairphone) and Abderrahmane Trabsini (founder Daily Paper) and contributions from more than thirty leading professionals from the Dutch design, architecture and fashion world, including Amanda Pinatih (Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam), Miriam van der Lubbe (creative director Dutch Design Week), Natalie Dubois (curator Centraal Museum Utrecht) and Janice Deul (cultural activist).
