Frame built-in bench (Model 447)
Built-in three-seater sofa (model 447). The design is by architect Van der Vlugt and the elaboration and execution is by the Rotterdam firm Allan & Co. The ze sofa stands in the studio of house Sonneveld. It consists of a removable seat with removable armrest, a removable backrest and three separate cushions. Sofa and cushion are upholstered. The blue color is by painter Bart van der Leck. The fabric was supplied in 1933 by Metz & Co, in Wool repp, "a strong wool rib fabric for furniture upholstery. Fabric traces found under several other upholstery fabrics of this sofa confirm that this is a cornflower blue, rough ribbed fabric, with thin cotton warp threads and thick wool weft threads that gave the fabric a rough appearance. The cushions were reupholstered in "blue peach" when House Sonneveld was reconstructed in 2001, as Wool repp is no longer made as a fabric type. House Sonneveld was completed in 1933 and was built for the Sonneveld family to a design by the architectural firm Brinkman and Van der Vlugt. They were also responsible for the interior, working closely with W.H. Gispen.
