Table phone (PTT type Norm-A)

Tabletop telephone (PTT type Norm-A). Black lacquered telephone with bakelite handset, plastic dial and cord. It stands in daughter Gésine's bedroom in the Sonneveld home. It was one of ten telephones intended for indoor telephone traffic. There were also two telephones for telephony outside the house. The telephone was part of Siemens and Halske's house installation, which consisted of black wall models and black and white table models. A house system in itself was not a modern invention, it was usually purchased in companies, for private use it was a great luxury. House Sonneveld was completed in 1933 and was built for the Sonneveld family to a design by the architectural firm Brinkman and Van der Vlugt. They were also responsible for the interior, working closely with W.H. Gispen.
