Moroccan hand knotted wool rug, from the Sonneveld family. Rug with motifs in four colors of wool; natural, beige, dark beige and brown and finished with fringe. The rug was made by Société Africaine de Filature et Tissage SAFT. The rug was in the sitting room of Sonneveld House. It was part of the color palette of the living room, which moved away from the bright primary colors of the dining room. Here it is brown that sets the color: the brown of the Doria Velvet and the walls painted in harmonizing shades of bronze-brown, a dark brown carpet and this hand-knotted rug. Completed in 1933, the residence was built for the Sonneveld family to a design by the architectural firm Brinkman and Van der Vlugt. They were also responsible for the interior, working closely with W.H. Gispen. The rug was supplied by Metz & Co.
