Chromed, tubular steel ladies armchair (Gispen model 408). This is a sprung and rear legless armchair with Bakelite armrests and light blue upholstery in the Sonneveld daughters' studio. The chair's counterpart was the men's model, No. 407. Both armchairs had fixed upholstery with coil springs. The armchair 408 came on the market in 1933 with short armrests. These armrests were replaced in 1935 by long armrests with an upward swinging end. The armchair was available with various upholsteries (manchester, peau de pêche, leather and special fabric). The chairs in the studio in 1933 were upholstered in a Peach cloth B.H. 900. The fabric was supplied in 1933 by Metz & Co, Artist Bart van der Leck, appointed color consultant by Metz & Co, had also composed this color. The accent colors he applied were the pastel version of De Stijl colors typical of Van der Leck. A cornflower blue color was chosen for this armchair. House Sonneveld was completed in 1933 and was built for the Sonneveld family to a design by the architectural firm Brinkman and Van der Vlugt. They were also responsible for the interior, working closely with W.H. Gispen.
