Coffee table (Gispen Model 501)

Coffee table (Gispen model 501), which stood by the sofa in the sitting room of Sonneveld House from 2001-2011. This table has been returned to the lender. The table has a tubular steel frame and two round table tops, which were replaced for the purpose of presentation in Huis Sonneveld by one, ivory-colored opaque glass top. The legs are curved at the bottom and connected crosswise. The Sonnevelds' original table was a Gispen 501 unica. It had one, ivory-colored opaque glass top with a diameter of 90 cm and a glass thickness of 11 mm. This unica table also had a different height dimension of 60 cm. The thickness of the tubular frame was over 22 mm. House Sonneveld was completed in 1933 and was built for the Sonneveld family to a design by the architectural firm Brinkman and Van der Vlugt. They were also responsible for the interior, working closely with W.H. Gispen.
