Replica of a Moroccan rug in the sitting room of Sonneveld House. The designer of the rug could not be determined, but presumably Elise Djo Bourgeois. The rug has an ecru-colored background, into which is knotted a pattern composed of horizontal and vertical narrow stripes and short bars. The original rug was supplied by Metz & CO and the design of this rug with serial number S118 was found to be still in the archives. It was a very popular rug and was still sold into the 1950s. Like most of Metz's other rugs, the carpet was made in a carpet factory in Rabat, Morocco, called SAFT (société Africaine de Filature et Tissage). House Sonneveld was completed in 1933 and was built for the Sonneveld family to a design by the architectural firm Brinkman and Van der Vlugt. They were also responsible for the interior, working closely with W.H. Gispen.
